If Oppo is doing it, Xiaomi can even do it better. Retractable devices are soon to be the norm and we have a few manufacturers jumping on board. The latest in the arena is Xiaomi, the company which promises fans that they will soon be able to have in possession a rollable phone design.
Some commentators have revealed how flexible Xiaomi’s design will be and it’s something many are on the lookout for. Notably, Xiaomi’s patent for a terminal with a flexible screen was approved by the U.S Patent Office in the month of October.
According to the company, the flexible screen can expand and retract, more than that, extend out to the size of a tablet at the maximum range. The information said that displayed apps will adjust as the screen is adjusted. More importantly, users will be able to put pressure on the screen without the fear of damaging it.
Talking more about other features, Xiaomi explains that on/off button will be at a vantage point – top and that can be used to activate the screensaver mode, during which the user slide and roll things around to get the desired size. The phone’s antennae and Wi-Fi are located toward the bottom.
It is a double-sided design with two screens. The second screen is a regular display and the back of the device. From there, one can use the smartphone without the need of revealing the flexible screen. When the flexible screen is in operation, it affects performance and battery life. It is better for anyone who wants to conserve energy to limit the use of the flexible screen to only a few occasions.
Other areas not touched on yet is how the camera composition will look like. Are people ready to accept this design? What will it cost? These are questions that need answers.
