According to Ice Universe, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo are preparing to launch smartphones with an under-screen selfie camera this year. ZTE, which launched the Axon 20 5G smartphone with an under-display camera in China last year, is claimed to launch a new mobile phone with an improved version of the camera. The under-screen camera technology allows the smartphone to be designed embedded in the screen that spreads from end to end without resorting to a notch or cut-out design or different frame designs.
According to Tipster’s tweet, the under-screen cameras will be officially launched in foldable smartphones by Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, Vivo, and ZTE smartphones. Xiaomi, one of the mentioned companies, is currently producing under-screen cameras. The company announced its third-generation under-screen camera technology last year and said it will reach the mass production stage in 2021. Although there is no new announcement about this by the company, the emerging information of the Mi Mix 4 shows us that the under-screen camera will be used in this smartphone series.
Until now, ZTE is the only company to launch a smartphone with an under-display camera. The company had launched the Axon 20 5G with an under-screen camera. This smartphone has a 32-megapixel sensor hidden under the screen. In addition, the recently released Axon 30 series smartphone was also expected to have an under-screen camera but was not expected. Nevertheless, ZTE will continue to work on under-screen camera technology in the ongoing processes and will use this technology in its next-generation smartphones.
Finally, let’s also mention that we expect this year’s new trend to be the under-screen camera feature, as many companies have started to use and develop under-screen camera technology.
