Nokia 5.1 VS Nokia 6.1 – Good budget smartphones from Nokia. HMD Global has done a fantastic job in revitalizing the Nokia smartphone brand. They recently got a fresh $100 million funding as they look to take the Nokia brand to greater heights. The Finland-based company has rolled out the new set smartphone called Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1. Don’t know why but I kind of like the way Nokia names their smartphones.
Well, these set of smartphones are not the first to be named like this. Earlier this year, HMD Global released the Nokia 6.1 also known as Nokia 6 (2018). In this article, we will be looking at the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 6.1. Both smartphones are budget under $350 and offer great features for such price. But just incase you have to choose between the two devices, let’s find out which is better.
Nokia 5.1 VS Nokia 6.1 – The Design
The Nokia 5.1 and 6.1 have the same body build. They both feature a front glass with aluminum 6000 series unibody. Most companies are now bringing out devices with rear glass but Nokia decided to stick with metal for now. Both the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 6.1 have the same thickness of 8.2mm. While the Nokia 5.1 is taller and the Nokia 6.1 is wider. No water resistance for both smartphones.
At their back, you’ll see a similar arrangement of the rear camera and LED flash. On both phones, the rear camera and LED flash are in a vertical direction enclosed with metal. Then you have the fingerprint sensor followed by the Nokia brand name. The Nokia 6.1 is available in three body colors; Black with a copper frame, White with iron frame and Blue with gold frame. While the Nokia 5.1 is also available in three body colors; Copper, Tempered Blue and Black.
Nokia 5.1 VS Nokia 6.1 – The Display
The Nokia 5.1 and 6.1 comes with thick bezels at the top and bottom, which I don’t fancy. With no home button or front mounted fingerprint sensor, Nokia should have gotten rid of those bezels. The Nokia 5.1 comes in a 5.5 inch IPS LCD panel with 73.1% screen-to-body ratio. While the Nokia 6.1 also features the same 5.5 inch IPS LCD but with a 73.2% screen-to-body ratio.
The Nokia 5.1 sports an 18:9 aspect ratio display, 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution and 439 pixels per inch density. While the Nokia 6.1 sports a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 403 pixels per inch density. The display of the Nokia 5.1 should show more vivid pictures. The Nokia 6.1’s screen is being protected by Corning gorilla glass 3. While an unspecified version of gorilla glass protects that of the Nokia 5.1.
Nokia 5.1 VS Nokia 6.1 – The Camera
They both seem to feature the same camera specs. You get a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the rear camera of both Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 6.1. The rear camera of Nokia 6.1 features Zeiss optics while that of Nokia 5.1 doesn’t. At their front camera is an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture for quality selfies.
Nokia 5.1 VS Nokia 6.1 – Hardware and Software
The Nokia 5.1 is powered by Mediatek Helio P18 chipset coupled with a Mali-T860MP2 graphics processing unit. The Helio P18 chipset carries 4-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and a 4-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. While on the Nokia 6.1 is Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset coupled with Adreno 508 graphics processing unit. The Snapdragon 660 chipset on the Nokia 6.1 carries 8-cores to a maximum speed of 2.2GHz.
All of Nokia’s smartphones run on a pure stock Android operating system. The Nokia 6.1 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box while the Nokia 5.1 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The Nokia 6.1 has two variants of memory; 3GB and 4GB. Both variants come with either 32GB or 64GB internal storage. While the Nokia 5.1 comes in 2GB memory with 16GB storage or 3GB memory with 32GB storage.
