New Samsung NPU promises super performance and super efficiency! – You ‘ve probably heard of NPUs several times, they’re in the bottom of AI’s focused processing units. Huawei attaches great importance to these cores in their SoC Kirin, and even Apple has already started to implement them on the iPhone.

Well, the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) has announced a breakthrough in its ‘On-Device’ Artificial Intelligence algorithm, detailing the benefits in a press release.

In short, the new NPU from Samsung will allow great improvements in optimization, and of course, great improvements in computational processing!

If you do not know, Artificial Intelligence depends on machine learning algorithms. Of course, the NPUs process many of these algorithms simultaneously.

That said, Samsung has developed a super-light On-Device AI algorithm, which will do everything locally… That is, you will not need a connection to the Cloud! In fact, according to the company, it is 4x lighter and 8x faster than the previous algorithms. This may well lead us to an era of high-speed computing, to spend little energy.

This is a very significant improvement over the current machine learning servers.

Just to be aware of the increased efficiency, it will be possible to use 1/40 to 1/120 of the current number of transistors. Reducing energy consumption and clear investment made in the production of hardware.

This evolution will help speed up processes such as fingerprint recognition, as well as image recognition.

If you do not know, there is already a Samsung NPU in the latest Exynos 9820 and 9825, allowing IA computing without the need for external servers. But in the future, these same SoCs are likely to come equipped with this immensely more powerful solution.
