MEIZU is a China-based consumer electronic company. The company started selling their mobile since 2008 and ever since, it has shown no sign of slowing down. The OEM have released devices that are top-notch and devices that have gone toe-to-toe with smartphones from top OEM like Xiaomi, Elephone etc.
In this vein, we would be looking at another device from this company that initially started off by selling Music player. The MEIZU M5 Smartphone is up for review today. Is it a high-end device? A budget smartphone? Or is it like every other mediocre and random phones we come across everyday? Find answers below.
DESIGN & DISPLAY
The MEIZU M5 is a beautifully crafted device. Despite its plastic body, the rounded edges and slim feel makes it easy to hold/grip and one helluva wonderful sight to see. A closer examination of the device structure will reveal the little resemblance the device has with the iPhone 6.
There’s a rear camera at the top of the rear end of the device. There’s also LED flash too. Like all the Meizu phone, the M5 also has a fingerprint scanner embedded in its home button. The sensor it quite fast and possess a very high and efficient recognition rate due to its large surface area & 360-degree recognitions
The volume buttons and power button are neatly placed on the device’s right hand side. The M5 is available in two colours; White and Gold.
MEIZU M5 sports an amazing 5.2 inch HD Display. The HD Screen with 720 x 1280 resolution produces bright and well contrasted colours which makes movie and games experience a fun one.
PROCESSOR & OS
Speaking of the processor on the M5, there’s a 1.6 GHz MTK6750 Octa Core processor that powers all the device functioning. The processor will definitely handle HD Games, multitasking and other applications very smoothly. The 2GB and 3GB of RAM (depending on the variant you purchase) also ensures that you can open as many apps as possible and the device wouldn’t lag or start heating up. The 16GB/32GB internal storage also gives enough room for movies, mp3, PDF storage and others. The storage can be complemented with an external SD card for storage expansion.
The MEIZU M5 run on the Android Marshmallow 6.0.
MEIZU M5 has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash for low-light photography. The rear camera with its Autofocus feature helps produce lovely high quality pictures. On the front is a 5MP front camera. The selfie camera has everything a selfie cam should have, except flash. However, the shots produced by the 5MP shooter are really nice.
As regards battery, MEIZU M5 packs a 3070 mAh , non-removable Li-ion type of battery. The battery capacity is quite okay but doesn’t really power the device for long given the battery consuming nature of the display and processor.
There is also no fast charge feature on the device. All in all, the battery, on a full charge will produce long hours of usage to users. And even longer hours, or a whole day for light users.
The MEIZU M5 is an amazing low-budget smartphone from MEIZU. The rear and selfie camera are great. The processor and RAM doesn’t give room for lag and overheating. The display (although not Full HD) produces great images and the device’s battery life is also not bad, but could have been better.
