How to download new fonts from the Internet
The first thing to do to add fonts on Windows is to use the free Google Fonts service. By connecting to the site, you can download all the fonts you want at no cost.
The Google service also allows you to find fonts for various languages to use on your website but also to download locally on your PC. The right column allows you to explore the contents of Google Fonts. Among the visible boxes we have:
- Categories, to view fonts divided by categories (sans serif, serif, monospace, handwriting, display).
- Sorting, to display the most popular fonts with the items- Trending, Popular, Date Added, Alphabetical.
- Languages, to view the fonts in various languages.
- Filers, to view other options, you can select- Number of Styles, Thickness, Slant, Width.
Once you have identified the font of interest and that you want to download, click on the + button at the top right (Select this font) and click on the black box at the bottom right that appears.
Then press the button with the arrow symbol at the bottom, located at the top right, and click on Download to download the font.
A download window of a compressed file called Fonts.zip will appear.
How to install new fonts on Windows
To install new fonts on Windows, you have to add the new font, just downloaded in .ZIP format, to the existing ones. Double click on the zipped file you just downloaded, and it will contain the file in .TTF format. Select it to extract it and save it in the Fonts folder following this path- C:\Windows\Fonts (starting from Computer or This PC) and copy the fonts you downloaded here.
If you have trouble finding the above path, you can install fonts on Windows by going directly to Start> Control Panel> Appearance and Personalization> Fonts and then paste the font you want to install.
At the end, to view the new font on Windows, you must necessarily restart the PC.
Finally, open the word processor. Create a new document in Word and when writing, choose the one you just added to the font list.
How to install new fonts on Mac
To install new fonts on Mac, you need to start the Font Book application that you will find in More from the Launchpad or in Applications. Take and drag the .TTF file directly into the Font Book window and press the Open button. Or, located at the top right, press the + button of the Font Book application and choose the downloaded font. When finished, restart your Mac OS X.
As with Windows, you can test the success of the operation by opening Word for Mac or Pages and note the presence of the newly installed font among the writing characters.
In addition to Google Fonts, the Web offers many other services of excellent choice and not to be underestimated:
- dafont.com offers a large archive sorted alphabetically for downloading fonts in compressed format. The “Euro Fonts” section is excellent, where you can download the fonts used by European brands.
- 1001fonts.com– divides fonts by category and offers some truly original fonts. The vintage series is particularly elegant.
