For many of us, Cyberpunk 2077 is a failure. But now, we know that we might have concluded so quickly. For the company, sales revenue was more than double that of 2015 when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Eight million pre-orders made that happen for CD Projekt.
A valid source said that CD Projekt’s preliminary sales numbers for last year included $562 million in sales revenue. That is four times larger than the 2019 figures.
The polish company is having a swell time, recording the highest ever profit since its existence. 2020 was a record year for net profits too. The company had $303 million, which was triple the previous record of $89.8 million that was also set in 2015. The company is expected to announce the final results on April 22.
The main reason that CD Projekt Red is able to pull this off is the incredible hype that preceded Cyberpunk 2077 launch. It is seen as the company’s biggest launch since The Witcher 3. The game also became the fastest-selling PC game of all time.
What will happen to Cyberpunk 2077? There are plans for the ambitious GTA V Online-like multiplayer element being reconsidered. The company is also restructuring to develop multiple AAA games at the same time.
Even though many may have been thinking that the game will be abandoned by the developer, joint CEO Adam Kiciński said nothing of that nature will happen. He said that the company has no plan to shelve the game. He stated that the company is committed to bringing it to a state which the team will be proud of.
CD Projekt Red plans to get things done properly with Cyberpunk 2077 and sell the game for many years to come.
